Egyptian Gods Word Search

The gods of ancient Egypt, all in one grid. Our Egyptian gods word search gathers them up, from the sun god RA to jackal-headed ANUBIS. Pick a difficulty and enter the temple.

The gods of the Nile, in one grid

Ancient Egypt worshipped a vast family of gods, and this word search gathers the most famous. You'll be finding the great powers β€” RA, OSIRIS, ISIS and HORUS β€” the animal-headed deities like ANUBIS, BASTET and SOBEK, and the older gods of earth and sky, from GEB to NUT.

Each puzzle pulls a fresh selection from the list, so the pantheon changes every time you play β€” gentle on Easy, and a longer-word challenge once the diagonals and backwards words appear on Hard.

The whole family of gods in the grid

The grid is packed with the deities of the Nile. There's the sun-god RA (also called ATUM or AMUN), the royal family OSIRIS, ISIS, HORUS and their rival SETH, and the animal-headed gods β€” jackal ANUBIS, cat BASTET, crocodile SOBEK, lioness SEKHMET and ibis-headed THOTH, god of writing. There are the gods of the world itself β€” earth GEB and sky NUT, with their parents SHU and TEFNUT β€” plus PTAH, HATHOR, MAAT, NEPHTHYS, KHONSU, KHNUM, MUT and the chaos-serpent APEP.

Gods to explain everything

The ancient Egyptians had a god for almost everything, and their myths explained the world they saw. The sun-god RA was believed to sail across the sky each day and battle the chaos-serpent APEP each night, which is why the sun always rose again. Many gods were shown with animal heads to capture their nature β€” fierce SEKHMET as a lioness, wise THOTH as an ibis β€” and ANUBIS, the jackal-headed god, guided the dead and oversaw mummification.

One of the most famous stories is of OSIRIS, killed by his jealous brother SETH and brought back by his wife ISIS, whose son HORUS then won back the throne β€” a tale of death and new life that mattered hugely to a people who built the pyramids as gateways to the afterlife. The goddess MAAT even stood for truth and balance, her feather weighed against your heart after death. These gods sit perfectly alongside the pharaohs and pyramids, pairing neatly with our Ancient Egypt puzzle in History.
