Martial Arts Word Search

Bow, and begin. Our martial arts word search hides the disciplines of the dojo, from a sharp KARATE KICK to a JUDO THROW, in a grid of letters. Pick a difficulty and find your focus.

Disciplines from around the world

Martial arts blend skill, respect and self-control, and this word search gathers many styles. You'll track down the famous ones β€” KARATE, JUDO, TAEKWONDO, KUNG FU, AIKIDO, JUJITSU and SUMO β€” each trained in the DOJO under a watchful SENSEI.

Each puzzle pulls a fresh selection from the list, so the mat changes every time you play β€” gentle on Easy, and a Hard-mode grading once the diagonals and backwards words appear.

Moves, ranks and respect

Every style shares a core of moves and values, and they're here. Practise the PUNCH, the KICK, the STRIKE and the BLOCK, the formal KATA, and the grappling skills β€” the THROW, the SWEEP, the GRIP and a low STANCE. Earn your way up the BELT ranks to BLACK BELT and the rank of MASTER, all built on DISCIPLINE and respect.

Many homelands, one philosophy

The world's martial arts grew up in many different places. KARATE, JUDO and AIKIDO come from Japan, TAEKWONDO from Korea, KUNG FU from China, and the wrestling-like SUMO is Japan's ancient national sport. Despite their differences, almost all share the same idea: training the body and the mind together, so DISCIPLINE, focus and respect matter just as much as any KICK or THROW.

That respect is built into the routine β€” students bow on entering the DOJO and to the SENSEI before practising. Many styles use a system of coloured BELTs to mark progress, usually starting at white and working towards the famous BLACK BELT, which can take years of patient practice. Two of these arts, judo and taekwondo, are even full Olympic sports.
