Sea Animal Word Search

Take a deep breath β€” we're going under. Our sea animal word search hides everything from the playful DOLPHIN to the eight-armed OCTOPUS in a grid of letters. Pick a difficulty and start exploring the deep.

From the splash zone to the deep dark

The ocean is the strangest neighbourhood on Earth, and this word search visits all of it. You'll be hunting for the cheerful DOLPHIN and the mighty WHALE near the surface, the SHARK cruising the mid-water, and the genuinely bizarre residents of the deep β€” the OCTOPUS, the SQUID and the glowing JELLYFISH.

Each puzzle pulls a fresh selection from the shoal, so the catch changes every time you play β€” gentle on Easy, and a Hard-mode dive once the diagonals and backwards words appear (a sideways CRAB will be hiding backwards in a corner, as crabs tend to do).

Shells, stings and surprising friends

It's not all teeth and tentacles. Look out for the STARFISH, the slow-and-steady TURTLE, the armoured LOBSTER and SHRIMP, the SEAHORSE, the STINGRAY and the surprisingly cuddly SEAL and WALRUS. There's the CLAM, OYSTER and spiny URCHIN, the swaying ANEMONE and CORAL, the ORCA and MANATEE β€” and we've even hidden a NARWHAL, the unicorn of the sea, for anyone who looks closely enough.

An ocean full of record-breakers

The sea is home to some of the most astonishing creatures alive. The blue WHALE is the largest animal that has ever existed β€” bigger than any dinosaur β€” yet it survives by filtering tiny PLANKTON from the water. The OCTOPUS has three hearts, blue blood and can change colour in an instant to vanish against the seabed, while a STARFISH can regrow a whole arm it loses. Even the gentle-looking SEAHORSE breaks the rules: it's the dad, not the mum, who carries and gives birth to the babies.

Holding it all together is the CORAL reef. Coral looks like rock but is actually made of millions of tiny living animals, and reefs shelter a quarter of all sea life despite covering a sliver of the ocean floor. That mix of giants, oddballs and hidden helpers makes the ocean a brilliant topic β€” and tracking down a JELLYFISH or a MANATEE in the grid is a far better lesson than it has any right to be.

Frequently asked questions

Which sea animals are in the word search?

A whole ocean of them β€” dolphin, whale, shark, octopus, jellyfish, turtle, seahorse and more, plus words like coral and plankton. Each puzzle uses a fresh mix.

How is this different from the sharks and whales puzzles?

This one casts a wide net across all sea life β€” fish, shellfish, octopuses and more. For a deep dive, the Sharks and Whales & Dolphins puzzles (under Animals) focus on just those groups.

Is it good for an ocean topic?

Perfect for it. Easy mode uses a small grid with no diagonals or reverse words, ideal for under-the-sea lessons and young explorers.

How to play
