Oceans & Seas Word Search

Dive into the deep blue. Our oceans and seas word search hides the world's great waters in one grid, from the vast PACIFIC to a warm CORAL sea. Pick a difficulty and set sail.

The world's waters in one grid

Oceans and seas cover most of our planet, and this word search charts the lot. You'll track down the five great oceans β€” PACIFIC, ATLANTIC, INDIAN, ARCTIC and SOUTHERN β€” famous seas from the CARIBBEAN to the MEDITERRANEAN, and the watery features in between, from a TIDE to a deep-sea TRENCH.

Each puzzle pulls a fresh selection from the list, so the chart changes every time you play β€” gentle on Easy, and a Hard-mode voyage once the diagonals and backwards words appear.

One world ocean, five names

Water covers about 71% of the Earth's surface, and although we give it five names β€” the PACIFIC, ATLANTIC, INDIAN, ARCTIC and SOUTHERN oceans β€” it's really one connected body of water flowing all the way around the globe. The PACIFIC is the biggest and deepest of all; its Mariana TRENCH plunges nearly 11 kilometres down, deeper than Everest is tall.

Seas, like the CARIBBEAN, BALTIC and MEDITERRANEAN, are smaller stretches of salt water partly enclosed by land. The puzzle also hides the watery features that shape the coast: the rise and fall of the TIDE (pulled by the Moon), a flowing CURRENT, a colourful REEF, a sheltered LAGOON and a narrow STRAIT.

A deep-dive classroom theme

Oceans are a brilliant geography and science topic, and a word search is a fun way to learn the names and features. It pairs nicely with our Sea Animals and Coral Reef puzzles for a full ocean adventure, and works for everything from a habitats lesson to a topic on tides and currents.
