Where these stories come from
Most of these tales are far older than the books they're printed in. They were told aloud for centuries before the Brothers Grimm wrote down German versions of CINDERELLA, RAPUNZEL, SNOW WHITE and HANSEL and GRETEL in the early 1800s, while Hans Christian Andersen later added THUMBELINA and The Little MERMAID. Because they were spoken, not written, the same story turns up across the world in dozens of versions — there are hundreds of different Cinderellas, some thousands of years old.
