Narnia began with The Lion, the WITCH and the WARDROBE in 1950 and grew into seven books, written by C.S. Lewis — an Oxford professor and close friend of J.R.R. The famous opening image, a single LAMPPOST glowing in the SNOW of a winter forest, reportedly came from a picture Lewis had carried in his head since he was a teenager.
