Why a band is more than its singer
A great band is a kind of team, and the magic is usually in the mix. THE BEATLES had two very different songwriters in Lennon and McCartney pushing each other; QUEEN blended a flamboyant frontman, a guitarist who built his own guitar, and a drummer and bassist who all wrote hits. That's why bands can create sounds no solo singer could — layering guitars, bass, drums and harmonies into something bigger than any one member.
