Electronic & EDM Word Search

Wait for the DROP. Our electronic and EDM word search hides the sounds of the dancefloor, from a pulsing SYNTH to a thumping BASS, in a grid of letters. Pick a difficulty and feel the beat.

Music made by machines

Electronic music is built in the studio, and this word search gathers the gear and the genres. You'll be finding the core sounds β€” the SYNTH, the BEAT, the booming BASS, and the moment everyone waits for, the DROP β€” plus the styles, from TECHNO and HOUSE to TRANCE and DUBSTEP.

Each puzzle pulls a fresh selection from the list, so the set changes every time you play β€” gentle on Easy, and a Hard-mode mix once the diagonals and backwards words appear.

From the studio to the rave

EDM lives in two places β€” the studio and the dancefloor. Behind the desk, a PRODUCER works the SAMPLER, the DRUMPAD, the MIXER and a FILTER to build a track, looping it on a SEQUENCER with a wobbling REMIX. Out at the RAVE and the FESTIVAL it's all HEADPHONES, a GLOWSTICK in each hand, a deep WOBBLE and a LOOP that never stops.

How a beat is built from scratch

Unlike a rock band, electronic music usually has no live instruments at all β€” it's assembled, sound by sound, inside a computer. A SYNTH (short for synthesiser) creates notes electronically, letting a PRODUCER invent tones that no real instrument could make, from a warm pad to a screaming lead. A SEQUENCER lines those sounds up in time, a SAMPLER chops snippets of other recordings into new patterns, and a FILTER sweeps the brightness up and down β€” the trick behind that rising tension just before the DROP.

The styles are mostly defined by their BEAT. HOUSE and TECHNO ride a steady four-beats-to-the-bar pulse made for dancing, TRANCE adds soaring melodies, and DUBSTEP is built around a half-speed beat and a bass WOBBLE you feel in your chest. It all comes alive at the RAVE and the FESTIVAL, where a huge SUBWOOFER turns the BASS into something physical. Because it's basically music made of maths, timing and technology, electronic music is a perfect topic for a lesson on music-tech and how sound works.
