Electricity & Magnetism Word Search

Feel the CHARGE in the air. Our electricity and magnetism word search hides the invisible forces that power our world, from an electric CURRENT to a pulling MAGNET, in a grid of letters. Pick a difficulty and switch it on.

The power in the wires

Electricity powers almost everything we use, and this word search gathers how it works. You'll track down the basics of a CIRCUIT β€” the BATTERY, the WIRE, the SWITCH and the BULB it lights β€” plus the flow itself, the CURRENT driven by VOLTAGE.

Each puzzle pulls a fresh selection from the list, so the lab changes every time you play β€” gentle on Easy, and a Hard-mode circuit once the diagonals and backwards words appear.

Charges, magnets and more

Electricity and magnetism are two sides of the same force, and the words are here. There's the CHARGE carried by each ELECTRON, the POSITIVE and NEGATIVE terminals, and materials that are a CONDUCTOR or an INSULATOR. Feel the STATIC and the SPARK, measure the flow in AMPERE and the RESISTANCE in the wire, and watch a MAGNET pull a COMPASS needle.

How a circuit really works

Electric CURRENT is simply a flow of tiny ELECTRONs, and for it to flow it needs a complete loop called a CIRCUIT. The BATTERY acts like a pump, its VOLTAGE pushing the electrons round the WIRE to light a BULB β€” and a SWITCH works by breaking or closing that loop. The electrons flow easily through a CONDUCTOR like metal, but an INSULATOR such as plastic or rubber blocks them, which is exactly why wires are wrapped in plastic to keep us safe.

The real surprise is that electricity and magnetism are deeply linked. About two hundred years ago scientists discovered that an electric current creates a MAGNET field around it, and that moving a magnet near a wire pushes a current along it. That single idea powers the modern world: it's how a GENERATOR makes electricity in a power station, and how electric motors spin in everything from toys to trains.

Great for an energy or forces topic

It pairs perfectly with a science lesson on circuits, energy or forces β€” Easy mode keeps the grid small with no diagonals or reverse words. Play online, print a PDF pack, or use our Make Your Own tool to build a grid from your own circuit words.

Frequently asked questions

What's in the electricity & magnetism word search?

The science of circuits β€” current, voltage, batteries and bulbs, plus charges, electrons, conductors, insulators and magnets. Each puzzle uses a fresh mix.

Does it cover circuits and magnets?

Both β€” circuit parts like the BATTERY, WIRE, SWITCH and BULB, plus the CHARGE, CONDUCTORS, INSULATORS and the MAGNET that links electricity and magnetism.

Is it good for an energy or forces topic?

Great fit β€” pair it with a science lesson on circuits, energy or forces. Easy mode keeps the grid small with no diagonals or reverse words.

How to play

Drag across a word, or tap its first and last letter β€” both work. Each word you find locks in with its own colour and ticks off the list, so you always know what's left to find.

Want a tougher challenge? Switch to Medium or Hard for a bigger grid with diagonal and reverse words. Stuck on one? Tap Hint for a nudge, or Solve to reveal the whole grid β€” and hit New any time for a completely fresh puzzle.
